BUSINESSES looking to breathe new life into their old office equipment are being encouraged to donate it to their local schools.
Bracknell MP and Wokingham parliamentary candidate for the Liberal Democrats, Dr Phillip Lee, wants companies to support a charity that helps education establishments by repurposing good quality office furniture and equipment.
Dr Lee said that as a frequent visitor to local schools, he is acutely aware of the funding challenges and difficulties facing the borough’s headteachers and is a keen supporter of this scheme. Business2Schools enables businesses to donate old or unwanted items to schools, instead of selling or disposing of them in landfill. Once a school registers with the scheme, they are linked with an inventory of donated equipment and can select and accept the items that suit their particular needs.
He said: “This scheme is innovative and at the cutting edge of recycling: every school should be aware of it. It has made a huge difference in the area of technology, as well as furniture, as businesses typically upgrade their technology on a three-year cycle rather than 10 years plus in schools.
“There are huge savings to be made here for our schools, leaving more funding available for books and other essentials.Jane Coley, Headteacher of Brakenhale School recently took delivery of some smart bookcases, desks and chairs through Business2Schools and said:“It is a win-win all round.”
“Business2schools is an amazing charity, who have been supporting us since the start of September. They have connected us with companies who have donated thousands of pounds of furniture, plants, computers and hardware.
“The quality of what we have received is outstanding, we would never ever been able to afford furniture like this.
“By helping companies to not simply throwaway items that they no longer want into landfill, Business2school is ensuring that it really is getting a fantastic second lease of life.
“We are incredibly grateful to the wonderful Lindsey and her team.”
